Haiti’s Electoral Council Calls for Political Unity Ahead of Elections

PORT-AU-PRINCE — Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is encouraging the country’s 316 legally recognized political parties to build alliances as officials continue preparations for the nation’s long-awaited elections.

Election authorities say reducing the number of competing political organizations could simplify ballot design, improve election management, and encourage broader political cooperation.

The appeal comes as the CEP continues implementing its electoral timetable, with coalition registration expected to play a key role before candidate nominations officially begin.

Political analysts believe many of Haiti’s smaller parties may struggle to compete independently, making coalition-building an attractive option ahead of the vote.

Although the final decision rests with each political organization, the CEP says stronger alliances could help create a more organized and efficient electoral process.

The announcement marks another step in Haiti’s efforts to restore constitutional governance through nationally organized elections after years of political uncertainty.
